Lara-Vendetti PBC on Fox Weigh-In Report From Los Angeles
By Jake Donovan

Published On Fri Aug 28, 2020, 04:46 PM EST

The time spent at the scale wasn’t nearly as dramatic as the mid-morning drama preceding the official weigh-in.

Erislandy Lara and Greg Vendetti both easily made weight for their 12-round junior middleweight main event, which airs live Saturday evening from Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles, California. Their bout tops a televised tripleheader live in primetime on Fox, beginning at 8:00pm ET.

Lara (26-3-3, 15KOs) checked in at 153 pounds, as the 37-year old Cuban southpaw makes the first attempt of his secondary version of the World Boxing Association (WBA) junior middleweight title. Massachusetts’ Vendetti (22-3-1, 10KOs) came well within the divisional limit, showing up at a fighting fit 152.4 pounds for his first career title fight.

With both boxers making weight and being medically cleared to fight, Thomas ‘Cornflake’ LaManna is resigned to his originally scheduled bout versus Brian Mendoza (18-1, 8KOs). Both boxers weighed 153.8 pounds for their scheduled 10-round junior middleweight bout which tops the preceding FS1 telecast.

LaManna (28-3-1, 10KOs) was the official standby opponent for the main event, had either Lara or Vendetti been able to proceed.

That very practice was put into effect for the evening’s chief support, as Alfredo Angulo (27-6, 21KOS) is forced to take on a completely different look than one for which he trained. The veteran Mexican slugger from Coachella, California will now face Denver’s Vladimir Hernandez (11-4, 6KOs), a late replacement for former super middleweight titlist Caleb Truax (31-4-2, 19KOs) who was forced to withdraw after falling ill Thursday evening.

Angulo weighed 167.8 pounds for his first fight since a 10-round win over former middleweight titlist Peter Quillin last September. Hernandez came in at a trim and ready 165 pounds for his unexpected primetime appearance.

In other bouts:

Dallas’ Abram Martinez (8-0, 6KOs) weighed 141 pounds for his scheduled eight-round junior welterweight bout versus locally based Colombian knockout artist Luis Arcon, who weighed 139.8 pounds;

Houston-based lightweight prospect Justin Pauldo (13-1, 7KOs) weighed 138.2 pounds, while Miami’s Josec Ruiz (21-3-3, 14KOs) weighed 137.8 pounds for their scheduled eight round contest.

Jose Valenzuela (5-0, 2KOs) came in at 134.4 pounds for the latest journey in his promising lightweight career. The 21-year old blue chip prospect faces Zack Kuhn (10-5-1, 5KO), who weighed 135 pounds on the second try when stripping down to his birthday suit after initially weighing 135.4 pounds for their six-round bout.

Center self, inner self
to me he is breh

beating Canelos bum ass brother proves nothing and he definitely not beating Charlo or Rosario
come on now. What performance have you seen recently that led you to believe that? The fight against Hurd? shyt entered the 12th a draw until the knockdown. Hes looked good to let his last few outings. He'd never fight Charlo bc they're friends, but I think he beats anyone at 154.

i dont think he even gets past JRock, Harrison, Lubin or win a rematch with Castano tbh

pretty sure Charlo fight is the plan, Charlo should beat Rosario and then he would hold 3 belts
