Pacquiao-Spence Showdown Heads To T-Mobile Arena In Las Vegas

Manny Pacquiao and Errol Spence have a home for their upcoming superfight.

The unified welterweight title fight will headline an August 21 Fox Sports Pay-Per-View event live from T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. The matchup of top welterweights was first revealed by Pacquiao (62-7-2, 39KOs) and Spence (27-0, 21KOs) through their respective social media pages on May 21, at the time merely listing Las Vegas as the destination though not specifying a venue. Loose talk surfaced of the fight possibly moving to another location once plans were announced for WWE Summerslam PPV event to head to Vegas on that date, with the event taking place at Allegiant Stadium, home to the NFL’s Las Vegas Raiders.

Unconfirmed rumors had Pacquiao-Spence possibly heading to the greater Dallas area, where Spence—who hails from Desoto, Texas—has headlined in three of his last four fights. The story never had legs, as the region’s most attractive venue—Arlington’s AT&T Stadium, where Pacquiao and Spence have fought twice apiece—hosts a Dallas Cowboys NFL preseason home game versus the Houston Texans on that date.

Pacquiao will make his 22nd career appearance in Las Vegas, though his first at T-Mobile Arena which houses the NHL’s Vegas Golden Knights and hosted its first boxing event in 2016. The 42-year-old southpaw and eight division titlist from General Santos City, Philippines has spent 15 of his 21 prior Vegas appearances at MGM Grand Garden, which was previously rumored to host the event. Pacquiao’s last two fights took place at MGM Grand, including a 12-round decision over then-unbeaten WBA welterweight champion Keith Thurman in July 2019.

The status of the WBA title being at stake for this fight remains under review. Pacquiao was downgraded from WBA “Super” champion to “Champion in Recess” due to extended inactivity but has since filed an appeal to have his title reign reinstated. Yordenis Ugas was the benefactor of the aforementioned move, though a successful appeal by Pacquiao will move the Cuban welterweight back down to WBA “World” titlist.

It will also change the status of the August 21 fight from a unified WBC/IBF title affair to a three-belt unification match.

Regardless of the ultimate stakes, Spence will still attempt his second unified WBC/IBF title defense and sixth overall of the IBF belt he claimed in an 11th round stoppage of Kell Brook in May 2017 on the road in Sheffield, England. Spence added the WBC belt to his collection following a well-earned split decision victory over Shawn Porter in their thrilling September 2019 unification bout at Staples Center in Los Angeles—his lone fight among his last four to not take place in the greater Dallas area.

Spence is coming off of a 12-round unanimous decision win over former two-division titlist Danny Garcia last December at AT&T Stadium in Arlington. The bout with Pacquiao will also mark his debut at T-Mobile Arena, along with his first Vegas appearance since June 2015 when he scored a 3rd round knockout of Phil De Greco during a four-win 2015 campaign that saw him advance from unbeaten prospect to rising contender.

The event gives Premier Boxing Champions (PBC) two major boxing shows at T-Mobile Area in a span of just four weeks. The venue will also host the July 24 heavyweight championship trilogy clash between lineal/WBC champ Tyson Fury (30-0-1, 21KOs) and former long-reigning titlist Deontay Wilder (42-1-1, 41KOs), headlining a PPV venture jointly presented by ESPN and Fox Sports.

Ticket prices begin at $105 and top out at $2,505, with additional price points to be revealed ahead of Friday’s general sale. Tickets will be made available during a pre-sale event taking place Thursday, June 24 before being made available to the general public Friday, June 25.

@Dallas' 4 Eva ticket info...pre sale tomorrow; general on friday

airbnbs seem cheap. Delta like 457 if I did Friday and return Sunday, Frontier is 221 (I do one bag travel so I can finesse a personal item only).
Is Frontier as bad as Spirit?

My mother in law is letting me and my old lady use her time share that weekend, it isn't on the strip maybe 2 blocks away. From my experience in Vegas... you don't want to stay on the strip.

lol id really just need a bed honestly. You drove? my only time in vegas I stayed on the strip so driving wasn't a factor. But for this event I'd drive since it seems too hectic to depend on uber (plus the surcharges for the event). I wonder how bad them 105 dollar seats are because I'd go more so for the history anyways lol

Spirit is trash, you would be better off going with Southwest if you going for budget flights.

Spirit is trash, you would be better off going with Southwest if you going for budget flights.

I just looked at SW and the sunday flights are super early. I'm probably going to do with Delta or Frontier depending how these ticket prices are. The Rental car and Airbnb prices dont seem bad.

this would be my 3rd fight this summer (I got Tank this week, Charlo next month, and then I may do this one + trips out the country in Sept & Oct God willing) so I'd really just be going to see history. Tank I got good seats and Charlo I'm on the floor lol
