If AJ fights how he was supposed to in the first fight, then I see him winning, maybe even stopping Usyk.

If he tries that "sweet science" crap again tho :francis:

His problem is all mental. Clearly some of the criticism gets to him, and then he feels like he has to prove that he is a "complete fighter", not just a gifted athlete with some gaps in his skills.

Hopefully he snaps out of that nonsense and learns to respect the strengths of his opponents and use his own strengths.

Sky Sports Wins UK Broadcast Rights To Usyk-Joshua Rematch

BY RON LEWIS
Published Thu Jul 07, 2022, 04:35 PM EDT
Sky Sports have reportedly won the rights to broadcast the Oleksandr Usyk-Anthony Joshua fight in the UK, beating a bid from DAZN, despite Joshua agreeing a deal with DAZN last month.

The fight, for the WBA, WBO and IBF heavyweight titles that Usyk won from Joshua in London last September, takes place in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia, on August 20. It will be screened on Sky Box Office, Sky's pay-per-view arm.

It extends Sky's relationship with Joshua, having broadcast every one of his professional fights since he turned professional in 2013 on the back of winning Olympic gold in London the previous year.

Joshua previously had an exclusive deal with Sky, which ran out after the first Usyk fight, and less than four weeks ago DAZN - who agreed a UK deal with Joshua's promoter Eddie Hearn last summer - unveiled they had signed a "long-term global partnership" with Joshua.

They said the "ground-breaking deal" made Joshua a global ambassador for DAZN as well as an adviser and shareholder, with rumors that it tied Joshua in for ten fights.

However, the deal did not come with the rights to the Usyk rematch, which were held by the Saudi organizers who had paid a reported £98 million for the right to host the fight. As well as the biggest bid, the Saudis were keen to get the fight the biggest possible profile and it is understood that the BBC had also been offered the chance to bid for the fight.

Joshua will be bidding to become world champion for the third time, having previously lost the titles to Andy Ruiz Jr, before winning a rematch in Saudi Arabia in 2019.

Hrgovic-Zhang rescheduled

The delayed IBF heavyweight title elimination fight between Filip Hrgovic and Zhang Zhilei will be added to the undercard of the rematch between unified heavyweight titleholder Oleksandr Usyk and former two-time titlist Anthony Joshua, according to multiple sources.

The Matchroom Boxing card is scheduled for Aug. 20 at the King Abdullah Sports City Arena in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia. The venue, which has hosted boxing, WWE and other sports events, was formally announced on Wednesday along with ticket information.

The Hrgovic-Zhang winner will be one of the mandatory challengers for the winner of the main event. The eliminator had previously been scheduled to take place on the undercard of WBA light heavyweight titlist Dmitry Bivol’s defense against undisputed super middleweight champion Canelo Alvarez on May 7 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas. However, Hrgovic withdrew due to the death of his father leading up to the bout and Zhang instead faced short-notice opponent Scott Alexander and knocked him out in the first round.

Usyk: It Was A Really Difficult Fight For Me; Afterward At Hotel I Fell Asleep Sitting Up

BY SEAN NAM
Published Mon Jul 25, 2022, 09:20 AM EDT
Oleksandr Usyk does not agree with the notion that his unanimous points win over Anthony Joshua last year was a total breeze.

While Usyk wrested the WBO, WBA, IBO and IBF heavyweight titles in largely dominant fashion over Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium in London in September, the Ukrainian heavyweight clarified in a recent interview that Joshua proved to be a formidable foe.

The proof? After the fight, at the hotel, Usyk said he dozed off while still sitting up.

“It was a really difficult fight for me,” Usyk said. “Everybody keeps saying it was an easy walk, but, no, it wasn’t. It was a hard fight for him and for me. After the fight I came back to the hotel and I took some food and I fall asleep sitting [up].”

Usyk’s southpaw straight lefts, nimble footwork, and feints kept Joshua off-kilter the entire night of their 12-round affair. At times, Joshua even looked completely befuddled. Toward the end of the 12th-round, Usyk was rocking the British star left and right with power punches. The comprehensiveness of Usyk’s victory understandably lent the perception that Usyk had coasted to victory. While Usyk, a former undisputed champion at cruiserweight, commanded the action, his face reflected the type of damage he absorbed from the bigger Joshua.

The long-awaited heavyweight rematch between Usyk (19-0, 13 KOs) and Joshua (24-2, 22 KOs) is scheduled for Aug. 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia on DAZN Pay-Per-View.

The rematch, originally scheduled for the spring, almost did not happen. The Russian invasion of Ukraine, in February, compelled Usyk to return to his country and enlist in the military. After several weeks, however, Usyk, due to the incessant prodding of his friends and countrymen, decided he could be more use to his country by defending his titles than, say, sitting in the basement of a building.

“All I did was just pray,” Usyk said. “I did not want to leave Ukraine, but I visited my friends in the military and I visited them in the hospital. All of them were asking me to participate in this fight, to take the rematch and to fight for the whole country of Ukraine. Even my wife, I wanted to send her and my kids out of Ukraine, but she said she would not go. [She said,] ‘I would not go and that’s it.’”
