Triple H spoke to the media on Saturday night following NXT TakeOver: Toronto II. Highlights from the call are below.

  • He said this was the highest grossing NXT event in Canada and that they had nearly 13,800 fans in attendance.
  • He put over how great the show was and noted how they had to adjust the pacing of the show knowing what was coming at the end.
  • He put over the killer main event, saying it reminded him a bit of the Three Stages of Hell match. He talked about how they wanted to pull off something unique with the last fall that they could make their own and brand. He compared it to an epic movie that needs a great final battle.
  • He talked about how great the crowd was, and felt that they gave the fans a spectacular show. He noted that each time he looked, the fans were on their feet.
  • He praised Johnny Gargano and asked how you canít give him a standing ovation after what he did, even if you were booing him when the match started. He said that William Regal decided on his own to go out after the main event and shake Johnny Garganoís hand. He said it remains to be seen if that was Garganoís swansong, noting that there are still more shows this weekend.
  • He said the skyís the limit for the Street Profits and that they donít want to put a ceiling on them. He said they are so talented and that is why they are also on RAW. He said there are no limits for them.
  • He was asked by Mike Johnson of PWInsider about the decision to use barbed wire and weapons in the main event when Vince McMahon recently said that they would not be turning to ìblood and gutsî even if their competition does, and that WWE had ìgraduatedî from that. Johnson said that while there wasnít heavy blood loss in the match, the weapons did allude to violence. Triple H said that there was no blood, and when Johnson noted that Cole did appear to have blood on his back, Triple H said Johnson is digging deep for that and that Cole probably just got scraped from the table. He said the barbed wire did not get used and everything else is used regularly on WWE TV. He said that people need to stop with the conspiracy theories and that they (the media) are making themselves look stupid. Triple H said that there was no plan for intentional blood and guts in the match and asked if Johnson saw any intentional blood in the match, to which Johnson said he didnít, and Triple H said he just answered his own question ó that there wasnít any blood and what he is digging for isnít there. H said that there was nothing there that isnít commonly used on WWE TV. He asked Johnson what gore he is talking about that was different. Johnson said that even though the barbed wire wasnít used, having it in the match was a tease of more violence, and what conversations were had about that given McMahonís recent comments about not turning to blood and guts. Triple H said that WWE didnít go any further and left it at that because Johnson was cutting out. He joked that Johnson probably said he is sorry and is wrong and they moved on.
  • When asked about Austin Theory being at the show and if he has signed with NXT, he said Theory is with EVOLVE, and that they have an alliance with them and are happy to work with them.
  • He was asked about Matt Riddle calling out wrestlers online. Triple H said Riddle can say what he wants, that heís outspoken, and is a big boy.
  • He put over how great Io Shirai was tonight and said it was a breakthrough performance for her. He praised the womenís division and the talent that is coming up.
  • He said that right now, NXT airs Wednesdays on WWE Network and that is where they are at until something changes.
  • He was asked about potentially doing an all-female show. He said Evolution and the Mae Young Classic show that it can be done, but that he likes having everyone on the same show to get across the equality of having men and women on the same show as well as giving shows variety.
  • He said they wanted Johnny Gargano to take some time to heal up so that he didnít have anything nagging that would limit his performance.
  • He talked about Velveteen Dreamís entrance being many different ideas combined together. He put over how fortunate they were to have the Toronto Raptors involved and how that made it that much more special.
  • He was asked about Cris Cyborg possibly jumping to WWE. He said that if sheís interested, she can call him and they can talk. He said they always want people who have a passion for doing this and put over Ronda Rousey as an example of someone from MMA coming in.
  • He said they will eventually run shows in Latin America, and that they can only do so much at a time. He talked about how NXT has become global and that many options are on the table.
  • He put over all the passion that came across on the show tonight and wrapped up the call.

So, inspired by this thread, I watched Gargano/Cole, fully knowing that I hated the previous 2/3 falls match.

I legitimately hope those two never wrestle again, and that Gargano never main events another show. Even going back to when I actually watched WWE content regularly, each Gargano "main event" style match plays out about the same. Lil homie turns into Jason Voorhees, because you can't kill him or keep him down. To the point where it flat out gets ridiculous and comical, in a bad way. It goes from building suspense over how the match will end to you eventually just wondering out of exhaustion how and when the match will finally be over. When McGuiness and Ranallo started openly calling for the match to end, from the presentation standpoint, it was meant to raise the stakes, but it felt like even they were ready for this to wrap up.

This also establishes that A: not even NXT has a grasp on how to book a face to lose a big match without looking weak, or like a fukking idiot, and B: Gargano is the biggest idiot of said group of idiots. Homie loses the first fall on purpose by DQ, then proceeds to not immediately win the second fall (because the second fall absolutely HAD to go a solid 20), and then goes out of his way to get the barbed wire in the third fall, only for it to backfire on him, and directly lead to the loss.

This was a damn near 50 minute match the realistically could've gotten everything done and been more effective in like, 30. Just pure self indulgence from top to bottom.

Also, as a side note: whoever said they needed to add Beth Phoenix instead of just letting them rock with just McGuiness/Ranallo needs to get the fukk out. Homegirl is trash, and I don't even like shytting on announcers like that.

Ending would have been better if they were struggling for the barbed wire and just Johnny got thrown off. Have Cole look worried like he just killed him, and have Johnny take a 10 count.

Also they could have had Johnny win the second fall right away. The rest of that fall was unnecessary. Especially with the 3rd fall being what it was.

I haven't watched NXT in a minute, so let me know: is anyone really feeling this Baszler reign like that? Feels like she's been champion forever.

She should have dropped the belt during the WrestleMania Takeover, I feel like they may do with Shayna like they did with Asuka and just have her drop the title when they move her and the other Horsewomen to the main roster and proclaim her as an "undefeated champion" or some fukkery like that

Flattest Takeover in quite a while. I guess that's what happens when you have to go 6 weeks of TV in 2-3 days with most of the main hitters not even available and not knowing who will be there by the time you get to Takeover anyway. Hopefully they get out of the rut of thinking every main event has to be some crazy epic encounter. This whole Gargano/Cole thing feels very inflated to begin with, their feud went from 0 to 100 mega blood feud with nothing really happening in between.

Cole and Gargano was nearly 50 minutes? :mjtf:

Why not just say fukk it and do an iron man match...at least it would justify the match length and be something different.

Just finished watching and overall a good show but not that memorable. :ehh: :manny:

Summerslam has the opportunity to be better.

I'll say this, Io Shirai was amazing and had the breakout performance.

Meltzer got that news about NXT probably going live on the same day as AEW & his tune changed:bryan:

Same guy that gave Cole & Gargano 5 stars for doing & kicking out of everything under the sun the last 2 matches, complaining about this match because they did the same shyt is tremendous. Complained about the length of the match like he doesn't fawn over long matches from NJPW where they waste the first 15 minutes slowly working over something that they don't bother selling after that first 15 minutes.

Imagine being as far up the Young Bucks & Omega's asses as he is & then complain about dudes overdoing moves & kicking out of everything.
