In 1940s Missouri, they would not have allowed a black family to adopt a white baby. She says her adoptive mother was passable as white but the picture in the article of her adopted parents, her black mother is not passable at all.

She is either a throwback child and one of her biological parents were passing and her coming out darker than the rest of the kids would have made things suspicious or there was infidelity with someone black. Either way, when she was put up for adoption, the assumption had to be that she was black or biracial because they wouldn’t have let a black family adopt a white child and even if, hypothetically, her mother was passable, the fact that she was married to a black man would have still precluded them from the adoption of a white baby.

Theres a difference between acknowledging a womans attractiveness and actually wanting her for yourself

I see halfbreeds all the time on a daily basis and all my life I never layer up with one or a CAC...matter of fact i never had relations with any non-black woman and Ive had opportunities to do so but always passed them up.
