his choice to lve there

Umm, I'm pretty sure Americorps assigns you a job location. It's like the Peace Corps. So no, he didn't choose to live there.

You're making wild-ass assumptions in this thread.

This article is misleading. It should be about his own personal experience in that particular city. Homelessness varies from city to city. He was in a reaaaaal shyt location to become homeless, but say he was in Raleigh, NC or Charlotte, NC, this dude had access to the library and internet, He could have found a roommate through craigslist. He could have spent that 10 bucks a month at planet fitness, an gotten free pizza and coffee and bagels when they had them. Cicis is 6 bucks and they have Soup, and Salad and minor veggies and fruits and water. He also had the bus to ride or could have biked around the city. His situation really sucked based on his location, but the fact he was white and it seems was not mentally unstable, he would have fared way better in a different location with those same resources. The inexcusable thing was buying drugs out of boredom! Nope not buying it. Go watch a movie at Wal- mart, go play some demos at Gamestop. This article is selective

...and eventually he did that by moving to Seattle. Moving to another city immediately wold have cost him his Americorps job, plus the distance between "cities" in Montana is pretty large. I'm done arguing with someone who didn't read the article.

Negativity (Kayfabe)
:guilty: I need to volunteer...

And also; I remember a number about there being Homeless Ppl << Abandon Houses

This is what kills me about those Republican talking points:

"But wait," you're sputtering at my article through your tears of compassion. "The government! Aren't there all sorts of programs to help people in that situation? Didn't I hear a pundit say that people on welfare drive Escalades?" Shockingly, being homeless actually doesn't qualify you for the government gravy train we've heard so much about, unless you take the metaphor literally, in that a train full of gravy also would not do much to alleviate an insecure housing situation.

Housing assistance exists, but it's limited in scope and scale -- and to give you a better idea of how the Department of Housing and Urban Development operates, rich neighborhoods are literally getting twice as many housing subsidy dollars as the poor ones, and 12 million Americans are spending more than half of their salary on housing.

 Vote against your own interest, poor brehs

Great article.

Interesting read but so many details left to the imagination...

-what was his full-time salary?
-did he have no savings prior?
-what was the average cost of a rental in his area or the surrounding area?
-were the shelters limited?

Nothing to do for a week, get a part time job maybe? Puts a few extra dollars in your pocket, access to running water and food possibly.

If I have a full time job and I'm homeless, I'm immediately claiming exempt and paying 0 taxes.

He obviously knew his situation would turn around. Anyone else in this situation might tough it out but if it became dire, they'd quit the job and move back to an area where there is family to get back on their feet.

Maybe this was just the universe punishing him for wasting money on his liberal arts degree.
