Dillian Whyte deserves a lot of credit, he outboxed a seasoned amateur who's beaten the likes of Ruiz and Pulev there.
If that knockdown hadn't happened he would have got more credit. But he deserves credit for how he boxed for the most part. He beat Rivas comfortably on the cards, that's impressive.
He's beaten an undefeated guy and a guy who was a very good amateur. His record is much better than someone like Wilder who's only good win on his record is Ortiz.
If Wilder and Whyte fought I'd say Wilder beats him, I'd say he lands the big shots and puts him away. However, Whyte has improved, if he keeps that improvement up and comes in at better weight and in better shape then he could improve further and cause issues. The best way for him to box Wilder would be to outbox him and not let him land those big punches and not choosing to trade with him like that, counter punches would be good also. He could beat Wilder on points, also if he landed cleanly potentially knockout. As I said I'd pick Wilder but to say it's a forgone conclusion I don't believe is accurate and Whyte is certainly not average. He'd be competitive with anybody in the division on his day. As I said before the fight he might not beat the very best but he's far from average, he's certainly a top 10 heavyweight. At least Wilder if he wins could actually add another credible name to his win record finally. He fights bums most of the time. Fury has fought a lot of bums too and a few credible wins such as Wilder (most think he won that), Wlad and Chisora. AJ still has the best resume in the division and even better if he ends up beating Ruiz in the rematch.
Anyway well done to Whyte, Wilder vs Whyte build would be amazing, the fight would be fascinating too. Would be a big win for Wilder and if Whyte were to win of course massive. But if Fury beats Wilder for the belt that's a great fight too.
