theres a story that mickey rourke was in a process of making a boxing movie based on the life of carlos monzon. of course it makes sense that rourke a whiteboy would get to play carlos monzon in a movie about him. boxing is a sport dominated and participated in the most by the non white cultures and peoples of the world yet most boxing movies are about white fighters so its only right a movie about one of the many non white fighters that get swept under the rug when its time to make another boxing movie should be played by a white guy. rourke went down to argentina with a crew to talk to monzon and somehow they arranged to spar together. monzon knocked him out cold. the movie never got made.
if you search the terms mikey rourke carlos monzon on the internet theres different anecdotes about how that experience went for rourke and its a cool read all in all. ive seen some rourke pro fights and they all look like dives.it must feel good to tell all his hollywood friends about how he had all these fights and how beat up all these guys. it looks like hes back to his old tricks. i guess some things dont change. wonder why he picked a black fighter this time around.

if Rocky was a story about an African American fighter from Philly it would have never made the big screen.....
just like comedian Bill Burr inferred ...."Rocky is BIGGER in philly than JOE FRAZIER..and UNLIKE ROCKY HE IS REAL!!!!"
this has always been the case in America.....
their is nothing unique about that....just like black soul singers with an amazing voice....
that's what made American Idol and the Voice so popular is that they highlight all these WONDERFUL WHITE FOLKS WITH GREAT VOICES it goes against the norm........
it's marketable...................
but as far as Rourke I don't even think it's a race thing with him or a marketing thing.....I think he's a guy who just goes thru multiple mid life crisis and ASSUMES he has found his niche as that "freak of nature" when it comes to being an athletic old guy..........
but instead of celebrating and laughing WITH him...we are LAUGHING AT HIM
