This is worse. First of all modern cars have a fail safe where if the torque converter is still turning, you cannot shut it off if it’s in drive.
and if somehow you get it off, you may lose your power steering and brakes.
It's not. It's literally not possible for the car to accelerate without the engine on. There is no more injection and the pistons arent running. In the scenario you were describing the brakes are already out. In a life or death scenario, slowing speed is far more important than power steering
