Well if the hoodrat mom isn't working at all, she's not going to get the huge tax breaks. All she is going to get is welfare. To really get money on your tax return, you have to qualify as working poor.
If the guy comes in and claims everyone, he can get the big tax check and then bounce.
If the hoodrat does work and gets the tax breaks on our own, he can wine and dine her a little, get her to spend most of her tax check on him, then bounce.
They want more proof you're actually providing for the kids now. Back in the day (I'm talking the 80's) you could make up kids to claim on tax returns because you didn't need to provide SS numbers on any other real proof they existed. It takes the government awhile to catch up with the scams.
