I am in science, so I have to be as objective as I can possibly be...Let me just give you an example...
Zeitgeist asserted that Jesus is not the "Son Of God" but the "Sun Of God," and they used this assertion as the foundation of their argument, that Christianity was a code for astrological events...
That play on words is VERY appealing because the "Son" and "Sun" are homophones (words that are pronounced the same) in English...Zeitgeist kept drilling that in the viewers head, Jesus was not the "Son of God/Man" but the "Sun of God/Man"...
But at the time the Bible was written, English did not exist, so if one was reading the Bible in the original language it was written, the word "Sun" and "Son" would probably NOT be homophones, and that play of words would lose it's impact...
For example, in French, "Sun of God" is "Soleil de Dieux" and "Son of God" is "Fils de Dieux"...Therefore, if you reading the Bible in French, there is NO confusion of when the passages are talking about the "sun" (Soleil) or the "son" (Fils)...
That's just one example...

yeah well the "jesus is copied from other religions" thing is major oversimplification, you could definitely make the argument many of the stories from the bible especially ones about jesus share similarities to other ancient texts that also deal with a part man part god story that were around before the bible. seems like all these "informative and entertaining" documentaries take liberties with their information to try to create some sort of story arch for the movie. that being said i think bill maher is a total a$$hole and a classic example of a "liberal racist".

I think I CLEARLY explained that example...Zeitgeist states that when passages in the Bible say that Jesus is the "Son Of God" it actually means that Jesus is the "Sun of God"...That was a MAJOR theme of Part 1...
But that assertion is flawed because the books of The Bible were NOT written in English, so there is no confusion about Jesus being the "son" of God,,,There was no mistranslations about that...It's just that "son" and "sun" in English are homophones, and because Zeitgeist was made in English...That word play was very EFFECTIVE...
I can't make it any clearer...
Zeitgeist stated that Jesus DID NOT exist, because famous historians did not extensively write about him...And yet we have a whole TESTAMENT dedicated to his ministry...How could Jesus not have existed when the Apostle Paul existed (the majority of the New Testament are letters that Paul wrote to other Christians)...
There is strong evidence to believe the Apostle Paul existed, and if he existed then Jesus existed....
The WHOLE documentary focused on "the least/minuscule" points about Christianity...
1) What about being conceived by a virgin...? The Virgin birth was stolen from the Books of Genesis & Isaiah...The people who wrote the New Testament were very familiar with the Old Testament, so they made up certain stories about Jesus in order to fulfil prophecies of the Old Testament...It has nothing to with Virgo and other astrological symbols...
2) There is NO passage in The Bible that states that Jesus was born December 25th...So, that whole winter solstice and blah blah in Zeitgeist belongs in the garbage...
3) Many people were crucified at that time...Crucifixion was how the Romans carried out their death sentences...
4) Resurrection is another theme taken from the Old Testament...Read the story of Jonah...
If the makers of Zeitgeist actually knew The Bible and Christianity very well, they could have made a MUCH better documentary sh_tting on the religion...
Christianity is a joke of a religion (for the most part) but Zeitgeist missed the mark...

even with that said -again... the bible interpretation varies on whom reading it
half the people who believe in it -take every story as events that actually happen & the other half believes certain stories are just 'tales' for deep meaningful inspirations to one life

The funny thing about about religulous and bill maher is that he's a proud jew. and always cites his own religion when he tries to justify jews claim to the land of israel. like how 2-faced and disengenuous can he be? he's the lowest of low. i could never get behind anything he does.
