The super-featherweight (130) division is one of the most exciting divisions in boxing next to the Cruiserweights. It certainly does not lack for any talent from champion to contender while being highly competitive. These 2 fighters puit themselves on the eye of the boxing world with their respective performances on 2 of the main cards of 2015. In both cases, upstaging the main events and relegated them to being afterthoughts. On June 4th, at the famed Stubhub Arena, they will meet in what is already being tabbed as a possible FOTYC with the WBC Super Featherweight Championship of the World at stake.

Orlando Salido is as rugged as you can get for a Mexican fighter. A willingness and tendency to get into some of the wildest brawls that one would ever see in boxing. Such was the case in his last time out in a rematch against Rocky Martinez on the undercard of Floyd-Berto. A mind boggling back and forth war, traded KD's and all, that unfortunately was marred by incompetent judges ruling the bout a split decision draw. Most observers thought Salido pulled it out (myself included) and should have became champion again that night. Nonetheless it earned Salido yet another FOTY distinction. Now in the twilight of his career, Salido gets another shot at the title from yet another new kid on the block.
Francisco Vargas first came to attention about 2 summers ago when he faced Juanma Lopez. It only took 3 brutal rounds for him to put a very faded Juanma out of his misery. Couple of more fights followed before he got his first title shot on the undercard of Cotto-Canelo against champion Takashi Miura. The live and PPV audience watching that card had been restless after Rigo laid an egg against a jobber in the second fight. This was folllowed by a music performance that lasted way too long with several very strong faced dancers . Miura-Vargas was medicine for the madness with a dramatic, unexpecting ending. Vargas after round 8 was wobbling with a badly swollen eye. Coming close to being sent to the bushes, he put together a vicious barrage of punches in the opening moments of round 9 to drop Miura and eventually stop him in that same round. This fight was seen as an instant classic and was recognized as the consensus 2015 Fight of the Year by several reputable members of the boxing community,
Will Salido again become champion and take yet another zero of a notable fighter (as seen previously vs Juanma Lopez & Vasyl Lomachenko) or will Vargas turn back the challenge of an aging Salido and avoid being a "one and done" champion. Stay tuned
