I got Naito and Okada dropping the straps. What will be interesting is if KUSHIDA takes back the title against Takahashi:jbhmm:

I'm an Okada fan but if it's just a matter of it being played out/time for a change I totally get that. That said, NJPW has a pretty obvious issue imo: they could really use another main event guy to contend/be the one who takes the title from Okada. Passing it between Okada/Naito/Tana (again??) could get stale in its own right. The obvious answer is pulling the trigger on Omega yeah, I'm still hoping they get another guy or 2 made in the main event picture moving forward though. Makes me excited for the potential G1 Breakouts this year.

i hope not, ever since i started watching from WK9..Kushida has been pretty much Okada/Tanahashi of the junior division

sidebar: would've loved to see Shibata be apart of the main event/world title rotation but :to:

He's legit and definitely believable but I don't think he'll ever get a run with the top belt

Agreed. Goto too.

Shibata and Ibushi are the logical ones but they're both crazy in totally different ways. Other than that pair, they're relying on a top gaijin to come in at that level or poach from a competitor with a rocket push.

Would be surprised if Okada and Takahashi retained.

Naito vs Tana is 50/50 to me.

I hope Okada and Omega just give us a sprint. It would be dope as fukk if they could condense their WK match into 20 minutes.

The main problem for New Japan in the last 3-4 years has been the uppermidcard. Gedo doesn't have ANYTHING worth a damn for his top guys once they drop from title contention. So they just meander in meaningless feuds until they get a shot again, they never get much momentum besides having a name and being former champs. Naito doesn't need the IC belt, he could just be wrecking shyt up with LIJ while a guy like Ishii could get legit main event momentum and become a legit challenger (it might be too late for him in 2017, but it's an example of a wasted opportunity). It didn't help Ibushi left either. You put him in the mix and even with a stale and lazy product, the main event scene would feel more fresh.

New Japan NEEDS Kitamura, Oka or another young lion to catch fire like Okada or Shibata did when they came up from the dojo.

Working with another promotion is another solution but NJPW tends to bully them and the relationships rarely last.

oh yeah good call it's pretty much an Ibushi shaped hole

re: Kushida I just wanna see him in the G1 already, there's literally nothing else compelling left for the guy as talented as he is.

I'm not sure Kushida will ever jump to heavyweight.

I don't think so either I just liked the idea of being a wildcard matchup in a G1. I was never 100% sure whether or not you MUST be a heavyweight to enter G1. Might be interesting if they let one junior in one a case by case basis, vets only. Basically Kushida and nobody else ha

Not sure if there are really "go to" links at this point for them since they're young lions but the potential is there for them. Also there's another lion named Shota Umino, he's referee Red Shoes son.

Ah my bad missed that they were young lions. Any potential in poaching rising talent from other japanese promotions? One of the guys from NOAH in G1 last year was sick - blonde guy - I thought I read he'd stick around?

I think your thinking of current NOAH heavyweight champ Katsuhiko Nakajima

NOAH was bought back in Oct by an IT company. I believe NJPW had a minority share in NOAH but after the purchase NJPW pulled their guys back from NOAH
