What incentive would "the industry" have by making jazzy, "hotep" hip-hop by Kendrick, be the standard going forward? Especially when White ppl love the gritty street crashout shyt? I usually LOVE 50 interviews, but this non-sense reeks of PTSD that he had from Kanye outselling him and articles proclaming that "Gangster Rap is dead" after 50 lost in such a public fashion. He's using Kendrick as that avatar for Kanye. Which is ironic, because Kanye pathed the way for Drakes(initial) style of vulnerable soft rap. The arguement could be made that Drakes initial forray was used to kill gritty rap. 50 using GKMC as an example shows how out of touch he was, ESPECIALLY considering how much of a standout album it was amongst the other new school millenial rappers of the early 10s(Big Sean, Drake, Cole, ASAP), given how much grittier and real it was compared to the others, who were more or less rapping about girls. GKMC might've been the grittiest album of the Big 3 from all their respective albums from that era. There's so much to say about the non-sense in this interview.
Further more, Young Boy, Carti, and other GenZ's of that ilk are definitely on their waves right now, and will keep things "afloat" with Drake gone. Young ppl will simply MOVE ON. Old dudes are the one's stuck on the concept of "One rapper carrying the game". Which lowkey, Drake got that concept from JayZ. "The game needs me" mentality.
