Raw on 5/13 did a 2.91 rating and 4.06 million viewers, up slightly from the prior week. It was the second lowest number of the year. That was expected going against the Miami Heat vs. Chicago Bulls game (3.72 rating; 4.87 million viewers), which opposed Raw until about 9:40 p.m. The Heat vs. Bulls game was down 12% in viewers from the same game a week earlier against Raw, likely because the game turned out to be a blow-out. The drop coinciding with a very slight increase in Raw viewership (up 140,000) makes sense.
Most were expecting a lower than usual rating due to the NBA playoffs, and there were big market Stanley Cup playoff games, although hockey doesn’t have the kind of TV audience where I’ve seen anything, even the Cup finals, really hurt Raw, unless you’re taking Canada. All the Stanley Cup games combined between CNBC and NBC Sports on a national basis only did 1.09 million viewers and baseball on ESPN did 786,000 viewers. The Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Memphis Grizzlies late NBA playoff game, which started at 9:43 p.m., did a 3.89 rating and 5.04 million viewers. It was third for the night on cable, trailing only the two games on TNT. In boys under the age of 18, even though Raw was well under its season average, it beat LeBron’s game 479,000 to 436,000. The show did a 1.9 in teenage boys (up 6% from last week), 2.3 in Males 18-49 (even with last week), 0.7 in teenage girls (down 13%) and 1.1 in Women 18-49 (up 22%). The audience was 65.1% male, so it was a more female oriented viewing audience.
In the segment-by-segment, the Jericho/Fandango dance contest opening angle did a 3.00. Ryback vs. Zack
Ryder lost 125,000 viewers. Prime Time Players vs. Brodus Clay & Sweet T plus Teddy Long’s announcement
regarding the Dolph Ziggler situation lost 263,000 viewers. Kofi Kingston vs. Damien Sandow lost 136,000
viewers (to a show-low 2.62 rating). The Mark Henry-Sheamus interview and strap confrontation, Brock Lesnar
videos and 12 Rounds trailer gained 397,000 viewers at 9 p.m. to a 2.91. Randy Orton vs. Antonio Cesaro and
The Miz vs. Heath Slater lost 160,000 viewers.
John Cena & Daniel Bryan & Kane vs. The Shield in the long
elimination match gained a strong 623,000 viewers, ending at a show high 3.24 rating. Jack Swagger vs. Big E
Langston lost 274,000 viewers. A.J. vs. Natalya lost 279,000 viewers. And the HHH/Brock Lesnar angle gained
465,000 viewers, pretty much normal levels, doing a 3.18 overrun.
