can anyone explain to me the purpose of the lockout last year?

actually I see the point of these deals. If you pay them now and they blow up, you have something most teams don't have: an underpaid non rookie star. If it doesn't work out then the contract is still just enough to where you can move it later possibly, even for a similarly sized deal. If you don't do anything and he blows up, you either pay full price or you let him walk.

In DeRozan's case they didn't need to do it because they already had a possible replacement already on the team. For players like Holiday and Curry, they had to do it before someone else would put that pressure on them.

Oh I completely understand what you're saying. They should have been in no rush to extend him, but if they were leaning towards keeping him long term, why go after Ross?

With that said, the Raps are better on paper than people think. Half the battle has been won at PG and C. Just get the most out of Bargs and DeRozan and they can be good now.

Absolutely not.

They're saying this is his breakout year. They didn't wanna risk him going all out this year and have someone offer him something like 12 milly plus a year in the summer.

He did look much improved during the preseason... hoping this will be an Amir Johnson type of deal, where everybody will be mad at 1st then 2-3 years down the road there won't be a peep about his contract.

Hopefully he lives up to it. Be nice if he could learn to shoot threes. At least Calderon's deal is up after the season so we should still have some room. Plus there's the amnesty.

This guy is an ok player but he ain't worth that much. Even after the lockout Gm's still throwing these ridiculous contracts to players. But hell if they offered it to me i wouldn't turn it down either.

I really hope you dont mean Ross as the replacement...
