I remember as a youngin' I was:dwillhuh::dahell: :gucci:at the fact that HHH won this match, it never made sense to me for a very long time since next month Austin was in the WrestleMania main event and HHH was thrown in a random match with the Undertaker (which is ironic since of the 3 HHH/Taker matches at mainia that the WrestleMania 17 match was my favorite one)

It wasn't until last year when I listened to The Attitude Era Podcast where they explained the backstory and original plans that it made since why HHH won this 3 Stages of Hell match.

Do tell.

If I can remember it correctly I believe they said that the plans were that Austin would join Vince McMahon and become a mega heel and they would use the excuse of Austin attacking Stephanie McMahon to garner pitty from the crowd slowing turning HHH babyface. HHH winning this 3 Stages of Hell match would have been the excuse of HHH becoming the #1 Contender and challenge Austin for the WWF Championship.

I believe that all those plans changed once Rock decided to leave the WWF to go shoot movies in hollywood which made them change the plan to make Austin and HHH alies and form the Two Man Power Trip. There's more to this but this is what I remember them saying.
