Whole card was jobber festival. Over matched early rd ko's and a one sided boxing lesson to cap things off. Definitely not worth ppv or any money, but it prolly made some decent sells, shyt was well promoted.
Spence looked real solid. I knew he was the favorite for good reason and still picked Mikey's higher pedigree to closely outbox him and he didn't allow that to happen. Mikey only won the 2nd rd to me. Spence reach and speed bothered Mikey more than the power imo. Mikey took a fair amount of fades, but he blocked, deflected, and parried a lot of shots too. He was bruised up, but not battered and busted up looking. He definitely hung tough, but in the end he couldn't get past Spence jab.
Mikey wasn't moving his head enough while trying to work his way in. Then on top of that he wasn't using enough footwork to create angles around Spence's offense to counter and turn him. Dude wasn't really trying to do anything but just follow dude around getting out thrown and outlanded. Even Swift lets his hands go a lil more when faced with adversity.
Mikey's 3rd chance was late in the fight when Spence would neglect the jab and just come in close and work. Mikey wasn't even trying to counter him on the way in nor exchange while Spence would throw. It's like this shyt was Pac vs Clottey for the new era of boxing fans. Same damn arena nonetheless
I know I'm being critical of Mikey, but it was on him to be the better boxer and when that failed, he didn't even have the heart to attempt to be the better fighter and take them risks. The openings were there.
Spence on the other should have knocked out Mikey or at least had really bullied him. Dude seemed to respect Mikey to much even when he knew he had control. It felt like he was holding back at times instead of really pressing aggressively. He still threw a lot of punches, but theres a difference in boxing aggressively and boxing to get a guy the fukk outta there.
I can't imagine that version of Mikey Garcia going 12 rds with Paul Williams or Margarito. or Trinidad or Shane Mosely, Forrest, etc....
Welterweight division is trying this year but for some reason can't put on an entertaining yet competitive fight with the top names. Broner finessed a Pac fight and got his ass kicked and did nothing during a ppv main event. Porter vs Ugas was one of the blandest fights in recent memory and we just saw Spence aggressively box a smaller guy for 12 rds who didn't wanna take chances in front of 47 thousand people.
Crawford and Swift better kill it in their next fights.
I still rather see Thurman vs Pac. but Spence vs Pac ain't bad either.
