29 years ago Susan Smith murdered her kids and falsely blamed it on a black man.

Smith made her case by video link from prison. She started by saying she was “very sorry,” then broke down in tears and bowed her head.

“I know what I did was horrible,” Smith said, pausing and then continuing with a wavering voice. “And I would give anything if I could go back and change it.”

In her final statements, Smith said God has forgiven her. “I ask that you show that same kind of mercy, as well,” she said.

I remember that. My family lived within a 40-50 mile radius at the time. I was a little boy but I remember the tension black men experienced even if I didn’t understand it fully. It’s damn near incomprehensible what she did to those little boys and the first time I had of a heard of a mama killing their babies. I lived in SC back then! I remember this case, I was 10-11, but I remember my dad vividly saying he knew this chick was lying. That black men wouldn’t do no ish like that to some “lil ol poor” white woman, for no damn reason…the look of disgust on his face is one I’ll never forget…

Sad that damn near all of SC was searching for them imaginary brothas…even our lil small ass town was up in arms about it!!
