A call by a 16-year-old boy bragging about the killing of Chicago police Officer Aréanah Preston helped authorities crack the case and charge four teenagers with first-degree murder, prosecutors said Wednesday.

Jaylen Frazier asked a friend whether he had seen the news about Preston being gunned down in front of her home earlier and told him “it was his work,” prosecutors said in court documents.

The friend later went to the police and, in front of detectives, called Frazier and put him on speakerphone as the teen talked about the shooting, “including details that had not been released,” prosecutors said.

ShotSpotter, the city’s gunshot-detection system, registered nine fired rounds in the area, according to police radio traffic around the time of the incident.

An Apple Watch called 911 and indicated there was a traffic crash in the block about 2 a.m., according to the conversations over police radio. A responding officer who arrived about 15 minutes later — but more than 30 minutes after the shooting — reported Preston had been shot.

“We got a person shot,” the officer said over the radio. “It’s an off-duty [police officer]. Get an ambulance here now.”

The officer put Preston in a police vehicle and rushed her to the University of Chicago Medical Center, where she was pronounced dead, according to the police.

Cook County prosecutors said Preston was off duty and on her way home after her shift early Saturday on the city's South Side when the suspects passed her in a sedan, circled back and approached her as she stood in front of her house.

Residential surveillance video shows three people getting out of the sedan and running toward Preston, who was still in uniform, before several muzzle flashes are visible on video and she falls to the ground, according to court documents.

I actually have a lot of questions for you, as an educator in Chicago, do you think there is a realistic solution to address this? It seems to be systemic and deep rooted and we have a whole generation of demons just doing the most. What have you noticed from your perspective that contributes to this? What can we as a community do to address this? (without relying on cac support)

We have to find a way to hold parents accountable for what’s going on at their home , number one problem, kids shouldn’t be missing days out of school a week, coming to school high like bold high lol, parenting classes that parents are not going to , no lsc members at various schools , no parent support , partners Harley sign field trip slips my guy….basically we have to find a way to tame the parent , we can not be life skill coaches and educators
