VA study finds more veterans committing suicide - The Washington Post

Twenty two veterans kill themselves each day.
"More than two-thirds of the veterans who commit suicide are 50 or older," meaning that most of them are veterans of wars other than the latest Iraq and Afghanistan wars.
At the same time, suicide as a whole is increasing in the US, up 11% between 2007-2010. Non-veteran men in their 50s have a suicide rate that's about the same as veteran men in their 50s.
Then again, among more recent veterans: "those who served in recent conflicts are 30 percent to 200 percent more likely to commit suicide than their *non-veteran peers."

There are still doing research on non-veterans. I know some cats that have come back from serving and them niccas stay medicated. I'm talking about high dosage prescription drugs.

yeah I think the only mainstream outlet that actually does due diligence with issues affecting the military is the huffpost

my uncle is an ex marine with ptsd so I know how it goes

I did find it unsettling, how so many Americans had an opinion on women joining the frontline, but none about issues of rape in the military

men and women get rape in the military on a regular basis. There was a report that most rape victims in the military were men....

mainstream media doesn't really acknowledge this but they "exploit" soldiers for brownie points every chance they get.

When you're fighting for interests and not a passionate cause alot of thoughts can tear you in different directions. Some leading to a dead end. Very sad. Its so demonic, friends.

Marijuana and MDMA helps with post traumatic stress friends. Lets allow our veterans access to medicine that will assist in psychological therapy and internal growth as a human being :beli:

cot damn that's disgusting.

an army of middle class, working class, and poor make up the fighting ranks and fight wars for rich folks, while rich folks get paid by exploiting the military conquests and enrich themselves through contracts or business dealings that usually involve exploiting the natural resources and human resources of the area.

the US does not spread democracy. we commit raw acts of imperialism and try to expand our power and influence around the world, not giving a shyt about the lives being destroyed.

at the very least we should demand that our politicians and/or their families are participating in these wars they are initiating. if it's really really that serious that we have to GO TO WAR then the ones initiating the wars should be on the front lines fighting and leading by example. but hell no you dont see that. as it stands currently our government and politicians participate in war activities like they're playing risk, not like they're weighing the value of human life.

going to war should always be the last option. for the US it's the second option. first we extort you and if you give it up then you only get exploited economically, but if you dont give it up we will invade your country and topple your government either through overt military action (iraq) or covert military and government action (cia-aided coups, etc) and then come in and take what they want.

but people just act like everything is okay. we salute veterans and thank them for their service but we fail to analyze the unjust mechanisms that are putting them in these situation in the first place and making them unstable. the source of the problem is our government, and more specifically the CORPORATIONS who have taken de facto control over our governments law making and law enforcing capabilities, and who are determined to acquire as much money, power, and natural resources as possible.

how many people have to die from this government/corporate/military fukkery before people get pissed off enough to do something?
