we heard this after that Bucs SB lost when people said the league "figured out" Mahomes.
we'll see.
Every talking point gets proven wrong lol
Yall aren’t tired?
Well yea, rosters change every yr my nikka
I've been hitting on this point for awhile now and it gets ignored, but historically, the precedent is that, maybe yall have one more left of this iteration of the Chiefs. That would be 2025 season...
If we just follow historical record, the likelihood is that this is the end of the road. Most dynasties don't past beyond 6 years, and NONE last beyond 7 in NFL history. Chances are this thing is over...
Like Bryan said, yall will always have this era to look back upon, it's a real run. And the Patriots set the precedent that, you can retool and come back as a second generation of dynasty with the same coach and quarterback...
But as we stand here today, even yall gotta admit there's alot of shyt going against yall. First of all, the chance that Reid sticks around long enough to rebuild the team to this level of dominance is low. Whispers on his retirement have been in the wind for a couple years now, there's legs to it. He's almost 67 and 26 years in this thing as a head coach...
After the '07 loss to NY, Belichick was going on 55 and 13 years years completed as a head coach. This is essentially the same line of demarcation, if we assume "end of a dynasty", and Reid is a dozen years older than what Belichick was at that time. I don't think Reid is retiring this year, and maybe not next year. But where there's smoke, there's fire. I could see him coaching a max of 30 years, which means 4 years tops for yall, and I think we're at least at 50/50 on if he lasts another 4 years. I wouldn't be surprised at all if he calls it a career before then...
These rumors ain't come from thin air, it's been a thought now for awhile. And if he is gone, we know how this works. The chances an All-Time great coach is preceded by another is extremely low...
So the Reid thing is a factor, but there are more...
Mahomes just finished Year 8, and in theory he should still have a long career ahead of him, nowadays we know these quarterbacks play well beyond 15 years. And he's probably still got 7-8 years of his prime left, realistically. But he's taken alot of hits before age 30, and has avoided serious injury but always has these random, nagging minor injuries...
He's gotta look to changing his style of play to something less reliant on his physicality and athleticism, to more of a pocket assassin. He's gonna shorten his prime with his style of play as is. If I can see this as some couch coach, I'm 100% positive somebody/ies iinteresting building have said this to him...
People scoff when I've pointed out that Mahomes has had the benefit of health, and age (meaning, older and more experienced) over most of his peers. But this matters because these guys will catch up. You guys will always be a contender with Mahomes in his prime, the Patriots were always a contender with Brady in his prime. But the Eagles have a younger quarterback with a franchise that can better retool around him...
The AFC West is loaded with Canton head coaches everywhere, this is not gonna be the cake walk to a division title it's been, and that's a contrast to what the Patriots had for 20 years. The quarterbacks all around The League are gonna be young and maturing. The competition for the Chiefs to continue a run is at the highest it's been since he been there, and let's not forget. During the Patriots run, the Raiders won the conference once ('02)...
The Steelers won the conference 3x ('05, '08, '10)...
The Colts won it twice ('06, '09)...
The Ravens won it once ('12)...
The Broncos won it twice ('13, '15)...
And if you count when the dynasty ended for good, the Chiefs won it in '19...
Thus far, the Patriots winning in '18 at the very beginning of the Mahomes era, is akin to the Chiefs winning in '19 at the end of Brady's era, so if you cancel that out, the only franchise that has won the AFC SQUARELY within the Mahomes era, is the '21 Bengals. That's it...
There will be challengers ahead, and in this context, I mean "challengers" as in, other teams that win the AFC. They are not gonna be in the Super Bowl every year. This has been a truly historic run, of 5 Super Bowl appearances in 6 years. I'd bet that you guys have some more runs ahead of you, but making the Super Bowl at an 83% clip, that shyt is not happening, fellas, 5 out of every 6 years. It's just realistically not happening....
There are other internal threats too. The Worthy/Rice combo looks extremely promising, but the Chiefs haven't had a consistent rush offense. The offensive line has to be rebuilt. You don't have a good enough tight end on the roster if this is the end for Kelce. Chris Jones has showed signs of aging all year. That secondary that was praised all of the last two years just got worked by Jalen Hurts, AJ Brown, and Devonta Smith. A strong trio, but this isn't Burrow, Chase, and Higgins. Some real issues have been exposed in that secondary...
I troll on here alot but I'm a fan of greatness. My kids are young (8, 6, and 3) but hopefully someone loves sports, because I'd love to tell them how great watching this Chiefs run was...
I'm just realistic. These things don't last forever and there are plenty of things that suggest that, this iteration of the Chiefs, is done...
