They knew Biden's brain was somewhere on Jupiter and still closed ranks, shut out viable candidates (RFK) and went full steam ahead until this nikka started talking in tongues during the FIRST debate with Trump and got exposed.

Then you have open mutiny on a SITTING PRESIDENT by his own Party, who was ALL IN on him until defense on his senility couldn't hold up anymore. Unprecedented and also done IN THE OPEN in front of the entire electorate.

Then you trot out Kamala who possibly doesn't even want to be involved with this shyt after seeing what just happened to Biden and the fukked up polls run for President with nearly NO TIME to run a COMPETENT campaign while dealing with Biden as VP who is at odds with his party for putting him out to political pasture. Kamala is a weak candidate but there have been plenty of weak candidates who've won office with a STRONG CAMPAIGN MACHINE behind them..the Dems did not do Kamala any favors to themselves and to their base.

Politics = nepotism, knowing the right people, having the right network around you, having a good stage/media presence, media/tastemakers backing you, convincing commercials that appeals to the lowest common denominator, having a catchy motto/rallying cry, having the right look/skin tone/ethnic background, being perceived as relatable/ cool/trustworthy/confident. Many people see politics as basically another entertaining and loud popularity contest. The Flashiest, funniest and loudest one will win. People want to root for characters.
