It's not necessarily about swaying voters to go from one candidate to the other, it's about a media/messaging environment that will affect or suppress turnout. If people believe it's a choice between Democracy vs Fascism then they're more likely to tune in and vote as opposed to a choice between two old men, one of which survived an assassination attempt.

All I’m saying is the democratic messaging hasn’t been set yet. Biden is already subbing Trump that it’s his fault he doesn’t want gun control.

My whole point is that Democrats need to provide a strong counter message, not rely on your presumption that everyone will just automatically agree with you that a Presidential candidate assassination attempt is no biggie and continue on business as usual. Right now Democrats are running the sympathy with the devil message. The average voter isn't going to be motivated to rally against Trump by hearing this.

The Democratic response to the shooting reveals an inherent contradiction in their core election message. You cannot credibly claim this man represents an existential threat to the very fabric of this country yet wish him a speedy recovery and be grateful that he's doing well. You either don't believe all the American Fascism talk you've been fearmongering about (like many Dems will admit to behind the scenes), or you prefer a slow, orderly, civil descent into fascism to the alternative of fighting to stop it by any means necessary. If Trump is viewed as just another normal, legitimate electoral opponent in a routine Presidential election, then sure, best wishes, speedy recovery, hope he gets back on his feet and gives us a good contest. But then you have to drop the American fascism playbook. You simply cannot have it both ways.

No one here is saying the Dems should say "I'm glad he was shot and I wish he died!"

I'm asking them to not wish for a speedy recovery and best wishes to the man they're saying is trying to end American Democracy. Those two sentiments are not in line at all. The Democrats did not send this guy to shoot Trump, so why would they need to justify killing a political opponent. They aren't responsible for this shooter.

There's a massive gap between saying you want Trump dead and saying you wish he has a quick and full recovery, and inside of that gap exists the correct response:
