It don’t make sense how little Saquon ($14.75M) and Derrick Henry ($11M) are making relative to the value they provide. I don’t understand why elite RBs don’t push for balloon 1 year deals for $25M if teams don’t wanna give them long term lucrative deals. Become a hired gun for the highest bidder.
Running back probably has the highest potential for injury since you're getting hit by defenders each touch so RBs want the extra guaranteed money that the additional years provide.
What hurt almost all the RBs that hit free agency last year was that they had down years that season (i.e., Saquon, Henry, Jacobs, Pollard). If they would have had seasons like they had this year going to free agency they probably could have demand deals similar to what CMac was able to get with his extension which was close to $20M/year.

Understood but the extra years don’t provide much additional guaranteed money. That’s a good point about them having a down year. But imagine if Saquon signed a 1 year deal last year and was a FA this offseason? Teams in win-now mode with tons of cap space like the Commanders would throw him the bag.

I wouldn't necessarily be so sure about that. Their value is based on their product compared to their contract.

Three of those guys went to perfect situations compared to where they were last year, so their numbers had more of an impact. Barkley just wouldn't have that if he was still with the Giants.

Saquon is worth a 1 year $20-25M deal for the Commanders.

other positions, yes as RBs are going to continue to get the short end stick of that compared to years and money.

If anything, these performances this year at their dollar value hurts them in the long run.

Ok yeah I agree. Yeah the injury risk and the steep drop in performance is why running backs aren’t getting more. That’s why I think it’s better for elite running backs to sign big one year deals. But then again I guess they would face the franchise tag.
