The issue is most Americans are still not hurting. This is a huge impediment to any real change.

55% of the American populace live in the suburbs. These suburbs are overwhelmingly majority white. These people are still living a semblance of the so-called American dream. This results in two effects:

1) They do not support structural changes that would lead to a more just America because the current system still works for them.

2) They are not happy that the Democrats are focused on the needs of the black and brown urban poor which may be the right and humane thing to do but unpopular in suburbia because the vast majority of white suburbanites are racist small-minded, self-centered and greedy. Poor whites get riled up with culture wars like gun rights, immigration, CRT, BLM etc.
This is what @Pressure always says. He speaks facts as he is a black man in the south. It’s easy for me a black man in NYC to think this Republic is more progressive. But that’s me in my tri-state area bubble. Once you leave the NYC metro area the country is red and racist as fukk. But white folks will be the downfall of this nation. What doesn’t help is that the GQP is getting closer and closer to their fascist dream. So America will continue decline. Voter suppression, gerrymandering, the Senate, Supreme Court is leading to their ultimate goal. And when America goes through a REAL crisis white folks will look to a fascist right wing authoritarian to take the reign. For example like climate change. People have no idea how close we are to the race to the bottom. Social misinformation doesn’t help. Like @MyAccount this country is done done.

Here's the thing though, there are A LOT of poor white people in this country too. Poor whites do not participate in electoral politics. We think they do because we think all backward-thinking whites are poor, but they are really Joe from accounting and Fran from HR. You will be stunned how many white people with professional jobs are actually the scumbag racist degenerates that.

Poor people are out on politics as a whole because their lives don't change. Instead of seeing that as an opportunity, the Democratic establishment lumps them all in the racist box and don't try to engage them.

We have seen white-majority voters pass stuff like Medicaid expansion in places like Idaho and Utah where the organizers knocked on doors and got to know the community. The Democratic consultant bubble has no interest in doing that because they have algorithms and formulas that tell us how these people think. Until you get in front of these people and make the case, you will continue to lose. The Democratic establishment don't understand that. shyt, all democrats don't understand that. Like AOC and the progressive wing pitched stuff like THe Green New Deal, which sounds great, but unions aren't on board. Why? Because no one thought to ask for union input on these matters.

There are swaths of strikes happening across America right now, but we have seen no national response or even political discussion minus a few tepid statements.

It's waaaaaay easier to hate than it is to actually work on changing the economic conditions of people, especially when A LOT OF AMERICANS ARE GOING THROUGH IT RIGHT NOW. A lot more than the media is covering and a lot more than politicians want to talk about.
