I still haven't seen Green Book so I can't speak on it. I know what I THINK it is lol but I don't want to talk out my ass about it. But I do love Mahershala and I don't think any of the controversy will stop him from getting his. Maybe the other categories it gets shut out but people seem to genuinely love dude and it helps he's on True Detective right now.

I saw the first 45 minutes just to tell myself I gave it a “chance” and its exactly what you think it is. Same ole shyt trying to remind black people that not all white people are evil and we can all hold hands and sing kumbaya and shyt. Stupid shyt.

I like Mahershala too but TRUST me. If you are a real fan this ain’t the movie for him to be winning for. History will NOT be kind to this movie mark my words.

If Beale Street Could Talk is a REALLY good movie. Its going kind of underrated but i’m glad the Academy gave it some shine.

He's got one. He'll get two for this. History won't be kind to it but history isn't kind to a lot of flicks. The winners all manage to be okay though so he'll be cool. People have turned on Forest Gump but no one shyts on Tom Hanks for it. Or anyone involved actually. It does suck that this is the movie he'll get his second award for though but I'm sure he won't be crying about it. :manny:

You got that from the first 45 minutes when they were openly hostile to each other? Oh okay. :mjlol:

It's popularity and hype drove it to be in the conversation. Overall, it was probably the third best comic book movie of the year. Spider Verse has more of an argument to be in the Best Picture nomination if anything. It's going to win in the Animated category without a doubt.

Damn near the entire film community now :russ: at least of a certain age. shyt actually beyond a certain age. I was listening to Joe Dante's podcast the other day and he asked his guest if they'd rather watch forest Gump or deal with some kind of torture and they all picked the torture. Said they'd never watch forest Gump ever again. The backlash against that has been slow but swift as hell.

I LIVE IN A CARDBOARD BOX!
I wont shyt on it, but 1994 had Shawshank Redemption and Pulp Fiction. Those two movies are talked about way more than Forest Gump 25 years later.

1994 was a pretty impressive year for film in general:

Forrest Gump
Pulp Fiction
Shawshank Redemption
The Lion King
Quiz Show
True Lies
Clerks
Jim Carrey's triple header (Ace Ventura, The Mask, Dumb and Dumber)
Speed
Natural Born Killers
Ed Wood

It might be one of the greatest years for film. :ehh:

Black Panther is also about subjects that a regular drama would be about and its all handled really really really well. It's not just popularity and hype. If I told you I have a movie about a young king trying to determine the best way to lead his people forward while dealing with threats to the throne, along with getting involved in racial politics and that conflict between africans and African Americans, I don't think you'd immediately think that's a comic book movie. Transcended the genre, man
