Few thoughts:

Black Panther getting the nod is a big deal. Not sure if it'll win but that's huge. Wish Coogler got a best director nod but it's got enough technical nods where it has a real shot at winning best picture. May not be a huge shot but its got a shot.

Props to Spike for finally getting a best director nod. John David Washington should've gotten a best actor nod. But Bale is getting that award so it doesn't matter

The Original Score category is tough. Those are all dope scores. 2018 was a good year for music in film

And Spike won't win. It's probably going to Cuaron but stranger things have happened. Cuaron did a great job though. All of them did. Roma is no fluke though or a movie that doesn't deserve the props and Cuaron always delivers behind the camera.

The only way I could see Spike pulling it off is if they finally give it to him the way Scorsese finally got his for The Departed. Which was a great direction job but also a recognition that he should've gotten it years before then

Horror bias. Told @FlyRy last year, unless its a special special horror film that makes a lot of damn money and keeps in the conversation and becomes so loud that they can't ignore it, horror will always be looked at as an embarrassing step child. It's why they coined the term "thriller"

I still haven't seen Green Book so I can't speak on it. I know what I THINK it is lol but I don't want to talk out my ass about it. But I do love Mahershala and I don't think any of the controversy will stop him from getting his. Maybe the other categories it gets shut out but people seem to genuinely love dude and it helps he's on True Detective right now.
