Why is Japan in the Copa America?


Japan have been invited multiple times before though. They were supposed to be in the 2011 edition but pulled out after the aftermath of the earthquake. They are sending a really young team to test out guys for the Olympics. Over half the squad has 0 caps.

Qatar also invited. They need competitive games since they qualify automatically for the next WC, and would not be surprised if they flashed some cash to get this invite.
