The illest shyt is that nas took jay's "I will not lose" motto and made it the chorus of ether. He completely dismantled dude.

Jay came back later saying "I will not lose for even in defeat, there's a valuable lesson to be learned so it evens out for me" lmao. How you get defeated but you ain't lose? Jay's mental gymnastics was in full effect on that one

Bubble Lip Jay is the first emcee to openly admit he lost a battle that's how distraught he was

Back then... "I... Will... Not... Lose!"

That's what stuck with me the most. Nas flipping Jay's line back at him. Can't lie though, Nas signing with Jay canceled Nas's victory for me.

Wasn't a clause of Nas signing with Def Jam not to perform ETHER anymore?

Give your rival a sigbing bonus not to diss you anymore... brehs

And KD can't dunk on Steph now. Still the fact remains Nas and KD went and played for their rivals. No hate, but it's worth mentioning. Had KD won and then signed with his rival would that not be weird? I mean, Nas won... right?

The song made both the word Ether and Stan into a slang. It birth the Camel jokes. Broke up Jaz-o and Jay-Z's relationship. Made Jay-z take his 1st vacation out of the country and started simping over Beyoncé. In turn, this was the ROOT to the demise of Roc-a-Fella. That label was never the same since.

:wow:What a diss. I remember when that song hit the radio, the city of Philly was wild quiet in shock:picard:. Like we were eating off of Beans/Jada, but this was like a whole different type of beast. Nas not only diss Jay but dissect him along with the squad. He broke Jay down to the lowest common denominator. While rappers were talking about murking dudes on wax and then semi facts, Nas went on another level by attacking his insecurities, his lifestyle, and his ego. Jay came with the facts, but Nas went towards the spirit of Jay.
