No, it's not a coincidence.
I grew up in Portland, lived most my adult life in Inglewood/LA, mom came out of the Bay and dad's family is in St. Louis. So I'm well familiar with the Portland, LA, Oakland, San Fran, and St. Louis fan bases. I could literally see the Forum from where I lived (though of course the games weren't there anymore).
The Laker fan base, on average, is so much dumber than those other fan bases it will boggle the mind of most other fans.
If you don't believe me, go on the internet and find some LA-local sports stations. 3/4 will make your brain melt. I don't believe they're possibly that dumb - they're just playing to their audience. But God damn, what a shyt job it must be to have to go on air and say crap like that to please people.
I don't know why. People in LA aren't any dumber than people in any of those other cites. St. Louis especially was full of people who were dumb as hell, especially once you started wandering out of the city into all the rural White places on the edges. But at least they had some clue about sports. But you go to LA and say anything about the Lakers, and it's like you've suddenly walked into a fukking Jim Carrey film.
I'm not saying that the Lakers are the dumbest fan base ever. There are probably other fan bases just as dumb, but that just aren't as big. And there are smart Laker fans, just like there are smart fans in any base. But the Laker fan base has that nasty confluence of being both big and dumb-on-average, and that means the pool of idiots that float to the top is as bad as it gets.
