Titans' Zach Mettenberger sucker-punched at Losers, owner says

Titans rookie quarterback Zach Mettenberger was the victim of a sucker punch during an incident over the weekend at a popular Nashville nightspot, according to its owner.

Steve Ford, owner of Losers Most Wanted Bar & Grill on Division Street, said Mettenberger did nothing to provoke another bar patron, but the 6-foot-5, 224-pound quarterback ended up getting punched in the face. He did not require medical attention.

"Here's the truth: The guy said something about 'Roll Tide!' to Zach, and Zach turned around and said 'Good luck with that,' " Ford said on Monday. "And the guy's buddy then sucker-punched Zach.

"I promise you that Mettenberger did not throw a punch. He didn't do anything. The guy sucker-punched him in the eye, that's the bottom line, and the guy that punched him started running out the door. My door guys had to chase him down."

The Titans declined comment on Monday.

Art Briles and his cowardly out of conference scheduling should really sit this one out.
I'm saying....who exactly has Baylor beaten to even be respected. You know why you play 9 games in conference Art? Because your conference is ran by one fukkin school which forced 3 other schools out of it. You're one school leaving away from being the fukkin Patriot league

Baylor adds 2019 game against… University of the Incarnate Word?

With the start of the College Football Playoff looming, most football programs are looking to beef up their non-conference slates in anticipation of the new system relying, at least in part, on strength of schedule. Baylor, on the other hand, has decided to cake up its future schedules.

The University of the Incarnate Word announced Monday that it has scheduled a 2019 game against the Bears in Waco. The game will be played Aug. 31 in McLane Stadium, which is currently under construction.

UIW founded its football program in 2007 and played at the Div. II level before moving up to the FCS in 2013.

“Playing Baylor in football is just another exciting step in the growth and expansion of the UIW Brand,” UIW athletic director Mark Papich said in a statement. “We have always maintained that the move to NCAA Division I would be in line with the goals we strive for spiritually and academically. We want our student-athletes to reach for something more, to be challenged on a daily basis and to leave UIW stronger in their faith and knowledge with a sense of accomplishment for accepting those challenges.”

UIW joins UT-San Antonio and Rice as non-conference 2019 opponents. Between 2014 and 2019, Baylor has just two non-conference games scheduled against programs from the five power conferences: a home-and-home with Duke in 2017 and 2018.

Big 12 commissioner Bob Bowlsby addressed the media in Dallas on Monday to begin the league's Media Days event, and he took the opportunity to put the NCAA on blast.
Bowlsby took the current model for enforcement to task, saying "cheating pays" in college sports.

“[NCAA] enforcement is broken,” Bowlsby said. “The infractions committee hasn't had a hearing in almost a year, and I think it's not an understatement to say cheating pays presently.”
Bowlsby continued on the enforcement staff: “They're in the battle with a BB gun in their hand. They're fighting howitzers. We have to find a way to make progress on it. It undermines the confidence of the system.”

The commissioner expressed his serious concerns with the NCAA's future, saying, "If you like intercollegiate athletics the way it is, you're going to hate it going forward. There's a lot of change coming.”

He outlined a difficult financial future in which expenses grow almost twice as fast as revenues. With autonomy -- a concept that's becoming more likely by the day -- among the Power 5 conferences, of which the Big 12 is included, more money will be required for better medical care for athletes, long-term educational opportunities and additional benefits. These, Bowlsby argues, will put significant pressure on athletic departments, and the result will likely be a net loss.

“Coaches and athletic directors aren't likely to take pay cuts,” Bowlsby said. “Over a period of time what we'll find is that instead of keeping a tennis program, they're going to do the things that it takes to keep the football and men's and women's basketball programs strong.

"In the end it's a somewhat zero-sum game. There's only so much money out there.”

2014: SMU, Northwestern state, buffalo
2015: SMU, Lamar, Rice
2016: Northwestern State, SMU, Rice
2017: UTSA, Duke
2018: UTSA, Duke
2019: Incarnate Word, UTSA, Rice

this doesn't includes annual in conference matches with Iowa State and Kansas.
