4 team playoff should only include the conference champs...i know folks will scream Bama is the 1st/2nd best team in the country but if they were that good, they would have won their conference....lucky ass play be damned

nope.....and only teams on the outside looking in complain...Okie St in '11, Auburn in 03-04 did it now you Bammers are doing it...win and remove any doubt

i'd obviously have a parameter set where if you finish outside of the Top 5-6 and you're a conf. champ then the highest noncon finisher would be selected but winning your conference 'ship and finishing high in polls should mean something

I think we all can agree with that. In fact...2013 tournament of champions:

using ESPN's conference power rankings for seeding which are fairly accurate

1. SEC vs. 8. MAC
2. Pac-12 vs. 7. Mountain West
3. Big 12 vs. 6. AAC
4. Big Ten vs. 5. ACC

Auburn vs. Bowling Green - Orange
Stanford vs. Fresno State - Citrus
Baylor vs. UCF - Cotton
Michigan state vs. Florida State (wow this would be good) - Rose

Auburn vs. Florida State - Sugar
Stanford vs. Baylor - Fiesta

Florida State vs. Baylor - Title game

The elite 8 there is pretty watered down with AQs to AAC/MW/MAC...but unless you create at large thats what happens.

btw, the only way I could make the above better is by actually compromising what I think is 'right' to get the 'best games'

SEC vs. ACC - Sugar, locked in
Big 12 vs. AAC - Fiesta, locked in
Big Ten vs. Pac 12 - Rose, locked in
At large vs. at large - Citrus, locked in

Rotate the 2nd round and title games between orange and cotton, and the final game is just 'title game'

in this scenario you get

Auburn vs. Florida state [ironic huh] - sugar bowl
Baylor vs. UCF - fiesta bowl
MSU vs. Stanford - Rose bowl
Alabama vs. ohio - citrus bowl
