Cassell, Allen, Robinson, Thomas all bucket getters that could take over a game. Highly skilled offensive players and when motivated could play defense. That squad could get you 130 in that physical era when they was firing all cylinders.

Hell they would probably have taken the Celtics to 7 and it would be a coin toss. I refuse to believe the 2000-01 bucks didn't have a collection of skilled guys capable of hanging in this era.

I don't remember what happened the next year, but they even had a rookie Michael Redd 2000 that could barely get minutes until 2001-02.


But back then. Too much Jump shooting teams and live by three die by three teams was laughed at come playoff time when the physicality picked up to an even larger degree.

But that squad would be eating good today and in multiple conference finals if not NBA Finals.

They were a fun team (which was rare for a Eastern conference squad back then), but they didn't really have a whole lot of substance to their play (more testament to the time than themselves).

If you look at the teams they beat, and even struggled in the process, and the team they ultimately lost to, they'd end up getting swept by the 2024 Celtics. If Luka and Kyrie couldn't do a damn thing to stretch the Finals series that far, what makes you think that team could? Ray, Big Dog and Cassell would be in hell trying to generate offense against Jrue, Jaylen, DWhite and Tatum.

That Early 2000's East was the weakest era ever. None of those those teams are getting out of the 1st round except for Larry Brown Pistons. The AI 76ers would be like the 5th best team in the current East.

Bucks woulda won more than 1 game vs the 2000-01 lakers IMO. Maybe taken them to 7.

Past that the team didn't really shoot the 3 like that volume wise (percentage wise yes) to compete with modern team offenses, big dog and sleepy sam were more midrange guys. And thats where Karl would handicap his own team in not making that kind of adjustment

The one game the Mavs won Lucka wasn't dribbling the air out of the ball and was initiating offense in the post hitting cutters and Kyrie was initiating offense on the perimeter. Then stupidly Lucka reverted back game 5 to dribbling the air out on the perimeter instead of attacking from the post...coaching mistake as well.


That 2000-01 bucks squad could move the ball and could attack/Initiate from the post or perimeter. Ray could catch & shoot, come off the curl & Drive to the basket. Big dog & Tim Thomas had post games & could pass out of it ....and knock down open threes. Sam could pretty much do whatever was needed. Don't underestimate those guys if they had freedom of movement...
