This is accurate.

If anyone spent time in NC in the 90s you would know, musically and style wise shyt skewed more East Coast than anything. It wasn't until No Limit/Cash Money blew up that cats got more on that down south vibe. I can't speak for Charlotte because I never spent any time there but Durham, Raleigh, Greensboro, Winston, etc. nikkas was on some straight east coast shyt riding around in Ac Legends listening to Mobb Deep, Cuban Linx and Clue tapes.

When I saw Petey Pablo come out I was like where the hell did that come from?

I ain't wanna call Breh out but EXACTLY.

Thats seen as like our anthem or sumn but it's a total departure from what I am into.

To me this is one of if not the very first album I can remember that got its buzz completely through the Internet.

SOHH was on this shyt early.
SOHH was on a lotta sh*t early. I can’t count the number of artists SOHH put me onto first… Game, Lupe, Saigon… shiiiit fu*kin John Legend and Bruno Mars shiiiiiit.

That site was legendary. How they f**k that sh*t up B??? It’s like Friendster f**king up the bag when they shoulda had Facebook’s spot shiiiiiit. What happened Felicia

Ski Beatz is from here too. Black Sheep has some history here.
There's some history/ties in NC if you know. Lords of the Underground met at Shaw. Kane been living in Durham since the 90s. Camp Lo used to be in Greensboro heavy. Smoothe Da Hustler used to be Durham. I remember at one point a lot of cats saying they used to see Prodigy around Durham (I can't confirm or deny).

Nah, I get it. I think for cats trying to explain to people that a rapper like Petey Pablo being from NC was an anomaly, sometimes it's hard for others to wrap their mind around the concept (unless of course they been down there in the 90s)

IYKYK, these nikkas was from Raleigh and you can see what time they was on and this in '93. I can't make this shyt up.

had this in my watch later for a while, but just getting around to watching it. Phonte revealed that he started damn near every verse on The Listening with yeah, yo or ayo.
