Same happened to the Taker match at Summerslam 98'. Both were ok, "good enough" matches, but Austin wanted to deliver a classic and they couldn't live up to the hype.

i never thought austiin and taker had that type of chemistry..their matches were never more than ok to me

Eh, I think they had better matches against each other than the Summerslam one. But you are right, they didn't have the chemistry that would warrant a classic even if all things clicked. I was talking about Austin's POV though.

Turns out that Taker didn't have chemistry with any of the main event guys during the Attitude Era. It was kind of weird. Disappointing matches with Bret, Austin, Rock, HHH, Angle (during the AE, they had better chemistry later on). Usually when Taker was actually in the main events during the AE, you knew you were going to get a stinker.

Would you consider mick foley a main event guy in the AE? i thought they had some wild ass matches...i also thought him and bret clicked in the ring too

He didn't really have main event matches with Foley, so I wouldn't count it for this, no. I never liked any Bret/Taker match, thought they were all boring as hell
