I get that but it doesn't matter who faces Danielson, the crowd is not buying he can lose. Takeshyta and Bandido were cheered loudly over Dragon because of that (root for the talented underdog to get a W we know he's not gonna get) but Cage and Thatcher played heels working a body part. That requires the viewer to give a shyt about the outcome because it's gonna be worked in a way were there's very few spots and a lot of control sections by the heels.
I understand being
with this match because "who cares" about a catch as catch can style match in this setting. But the match had a lot of little nuances that few matches have (specially when there's no history or feud involving both wrestlers) and Thatcher pulled a lot of shyt you never see in a national US promotion.
I think if roles were reversed, Danielson could've gotten the crowd to react more during the match (but not the ending) just by being more aggressive, playing to the crowd and humiliating his opponent, Thatcher was too focused on the work. You could even hear Danielson talking to him before Thatcher played to crowd the couple of times he did, he probably realized they weren't that engaged and wanted Tim to get some heat.
