New Jack Swing is the GOAT era imo, Literally brought a positive light to some of the darkest days (gang violence and crack era). Its Ironic trap rappers got big during a time where pretty much nobody does crack anymore besides burnet out junkies, and most of these cats were kids during the days where it was real.

Yea Crime in Black America is at All Time lows, outside of your Chicagos and NJ, as long as you aren't involved in the life you will be straight in most hoods, back in the 90s and 80s Black America was probably at its lowest state, just look at Old NYC vs NYC in he 2000s to now. So its real interesting dudes still make songs about selling crack when nobody does crack anymore for it to make you millions, nowadays people are back on Heroine, doing meth, molly, and other hipster drugs. Folks couldn't get away with the stuff they do now because back in the 90s and prior people were on some survival stuff and even Gangster Rap was more so a "Look at the beast America Created" type narrative because they still fit in Knowledge of Self type songs in Albums about killing women, killing kids, killing each other, etc (as this was done in a manner of look the problem in the face more so than bragging about this stuff in the literal sense). After the Champaign era of Rap cats fused Champaign rap and Gangster rap and we got Trap Rap out of it
