New Jack Swing had a more clear, more defined sound by 89'-90' imo. All those tracks pre-1989 by Bobby Brown, New Edition, New Kids, Al.B.Sure, etc was just 80's dance pop with a tiny, incy, bit of a hip-hop flavor. Imo, the 1st OFFICIAL New Jack Swing track might've been Poison. Even tracks like Bobby Browns, Don't Be Cruel, sounded like dance pop, as opposed to true New Jack Swing. But that's just my opinion. I was only 1 when Poison dropped.

New Jack Swing is the GOAT era imo, Literally brought a positive light to some of the darkest days (gang violence and crack era). Its Ironic trap rappers got big during a time where pretty much nobody does crack anymore besides burnet out junkies, and most of these cats were kids during the days where it was real.
