The Senate losses are very disappointing. However, those red state Dems faced a very uphill battle. Trump is very popular in most of those states, and are deep red states. Joe Manchin at least made a name for himself in his state that allowed him to win. Plus I really do think the Kavanuagh no votes from the rest of the red state Dems may have hurt them. Plus the way the senate works, where it looks like it favors Republicans currently. At least up until the Obama era, there were a lot of Democrat senators in places that are now solid red states, before the GOP successfully completed its Southern Strategy 2.0.
I do think that Gardener and Sue Collins are endangered next election, thankfully. But still, bouncing back from tonight's Senate losses is gonna be tough. I hope the Dem leadership comes up with a plan to reverse some of the damage over the next two election cycles.
That being said, I believe the House races are more indicative of the national mood, and Dems are doing very well (+9 in the popular vote) especially considering the gerrymandering from the GOP since 2010.
