14-year-old Radazz Hearns ... before being shot seven times by New Jersey police
Ladies and gentlemen, this is your America.

Rhonda Tirado was in sitting front of her Trenton home Friday around 10:20 p.m. when she saw an unmarked gray minivan abruptly stop across the street and three police officers got out to question the trio of teens.

She saw Hearns, who she only knows by his nickname "Rha Rha," run from the officers, and then the gunfire erupted, she said.

"Those police were amped and they didn't give that little boy a chance,'' Tirado said Wednesday, while re-enacting the shooting where the encounter started. "There was no room for no chase. They just shot that little boy right there."

The police, not really having another story to concoct, pretty much state that this is indeed what happened—except, of course, they claimed that when they shot Hearns, over and over and over and over and over and over and over again, they thought he was reaching for a gun in his waistband.

Except, when they got to him, he had nothing.

As he turned and ran, Tirado said she saw him grab his red sweatpants to keep them from falling.
"I don't think those little boys had no clue what was going on,'' Tirado said. "I think they was at the wrong place at the wrong time.''

Tirado said she saw the three teens pass her residence about 15 minutes before the shooting.

As they returned on Louise Lane, they were laughing, joking and didn't appear to be in a hurry before the minivan stopped, Tirado said.

The attorney for Radazz Hearns has stated that not only did police roll up in an unmarked vehicle, they weren't in uniforms when they got out of the vehicle late at night.

Like magic, though, a full 12 hours after they shot Hearns seven times, police claimed to find a gun near the scene underneath a vehicle.

Okay.

Maybe they "found" this gun like the officer who killed Walter Scott planted a Taser on him?

Maybe they "found" this gun like Officer Bill Melendez planted drugs on Floyd Dent?

Whatever the case, it's all garbage and this young man should've never been shot in the first place.

5 unanswered questions in police shooting of 14-year-old

1.) Did the officers see the teen reaching into his waistband before firing?

The statement from the Attorney General's office said, "Witnesses reported that as the other state trooper and the sheriff's officer ran after the 14-year-old, the youth was reaching into his waistband."

The Attorney General's office has declined to provide any identifying information about the unnamed witnesses or how close they were to the shooting. Authorities have also refused to say whether the officers also saw the teen reach for his waistband before firing at the teen.

2.) Where exactly was the .22-caliber handgun found 12 hours after the shooting and has it been linked to the 14-year-old?

The initial Attorney General's statement said that a .22-caliber automatic handgun was "later" found at the scene under a car on Calhoun Street. Upon questioning, the Attorney General's office clarified that "later" was 12 hours after the shooting, at 10 a.m. Saturday.

"Darkness and the vehicle both impaired the ability of investigators to find it," Aseltine said Wednesday morning. Sunrise on Saturday was just after 6 a.m.

The Attorney General's office has refused to be more specific about the location of the car where the gun was found and its proximity to the shooting. In addition, authorities have refused to say if the gun was found under a police car that responded to the scene or a car parked there prior to the shooting.

The Attorney General's Office also has not said whether the gun has been tested for fingerprints or if they believe it is linked to the reports of gunfire in the area that brought the initial police response.

3.)
Who was involved in the incident?

The Attorney General's office has not named anyone present at the scene of the shooting. That includes:

  • The State Police trooper and Mercer County sheriff's officer who shot the teen.
  • The 14-year-old who was shot
  • The other State Police trooper who was with the two officers
  • The two men who were walking with the teen
  • The witnesses to the shooting who saw the teen reaching for his waistband
4.) How many times did each officer shoot?

The Attorney General's office has refused to say how many times the officers fired their weapons or how many times the teen was hit by gunfire. The statement said the 14-year-old was hit in the back of his legs and buttocks.

5.) Is there any video or audio recordings that shed light on the incident?

A public records request for the dash camera footage from the police cruiser and for police radio communications from the incident was filed on Monday by NJ.com. There has yet to be a response from the Attorney General's office. The state has seven business to respond to the public records request.

The Attorney General's office said Wednesday they had not received the request.
