anybody seen this yet?

are people as upset about this as they were about django?
I just saw django and The Butler... man, I always think these movies are gonna be sooooooooooooooooo horrible based on what people say, but they aren't.
butler was at least based on something real, django was from some cac - but weren't horrible like people made them out to be.

Imma go see 12 years when i get some time.

Django is a certified joke compared to 12 years a slave.

How about you stop debating and just go watch the movie nikka.

Then go ahead and give us your two cents after the fact.

:russ:

i am going to go watch it... i wanna hear from the black fake outrage crowd tho

History vs Fiction?
Do We really need to discuss the difference?

i know the difference between history and fiction :comeon:

but the fake black outrage crowd didnt have a problem with django because it was fictional. they had a problem with the fact tarantino was so called "profiting" from slavery. but now that 12YAS is clearly doing the same thing not a peep.

for the record i dont have a problem with 12YAS cause im all for anything that makes people (both black and white) confront notions of racism and oppression head on. i just want people to see that its the same product as django with a black director and a more dramatic storyline. be consistent brehs.

one of the dumbest things I've seen typed here

so it's okay for a bunch of white people to profit from slavery because they based it on a true story and let a black guy direct? nah, same rules apply...

do you even know what im talking about, were you in the django thread? or are you just trolling as per the usual

of course im going to compare two similar situations where mainstream white america is profiting from slavery.

the point of contention in the django thread was tarantino profiting from a legacy of slavery, which he had no right to do.

but all the sudden this new group of crackas can profit from slavery because they're doing it tastefully, foh..

I guess Malcolm X shouldn't have been made because white people made money off it?

One is a biography (12 Years), one is a clear exploitation film (Django).

I wouldn't have wanted Django made if it were written and directed by a black man or woman.

The story does more harm than good for everyone.

We need less films about Alpo and Barnes and more about Garvey and black business leaders.

malcolm x wasnt about slavery.

One is a biography (12 Years), one is a clear exploitation film (Django).

im trying to figure out what the exact issue is though. django exploits slavery but 12YAS doesn't? aren't they both making money? so like i said it must be okay for white people to profit from slavery as long as they do it tastefully.

mind you i have no personal issue with 12YAS or django, this is strictly in reference to the dudes posting in the django thread.

debatable :manny:

Seen it a week back. Very, very powerful film indeed.

The scene where Solomon gets lost and finds a lynching taking place really hit me hard. That and the scene where ole girl loses her kids at the slave auction were really tough to watch. All the scenes are tough to watch, but those are the ones that really struck a chord with me the most.

I won't give away too much more. I will say that It encompasses what happened to us to a T and I highly recommend everyone watch it.

Great movie. Really made me sad and depressed though. My wife cried. I was truly fantasizing about going back in time and murdering white people all night.
