I been trying to tell these dudes breh breh. Why would black people support some shyt like this? We don't need Hollywood to teach us our history:mjlol:

Do black people teach white people their history:mjlol:

Our people have been conditioned since we were brought over here against our will, and these movies are nothing different. Not saying its a big conspiracy theory, but there is literally nothing positive about a black person going to see 12 Years a Slave. If that shyt taught you something about slavery in general, then you lost cause you should already know your history.

They got Brad Pitt playing the white hero and shyt. Black people, don't fall for this shyt man.

And they always a prop a nikka up a c00n to deliver the message, if you brothers read Fredrick Douglas book you will understand that
they always send a c00n to deliver the white's man message to the rest

Fredrick Douglas became a free man the MOMENT he taught himself how to read, they couldn't keep him enslave anymore after that
if you don't understand the significance of that and how its never portrayed in the mainstream I don't know what to tell you

The want you to believe these black men were just weak and to afraid to fight
when the reality was they were children raised by whites
CHILDREN, VICTIMIZED, we talking babies

12 Years a Slave is not torture porn.

If anything, it's not nearly as graphic onscreen as it actually was in real life. There's only a couple of scenes that are really visually graphic and/or gory...the majority of the film is about the psychological damage slavery causes.

There's nothing wrong with the portrayal. It's an honest historical film.
A disagree, also this isn't a historical film, what do you learn from it

This dude keeps saying "read Frederick Douglas read Frederick Douglas"...Frederick Douglas shows up to set him straight and he still wants to argue :camby:

If y'all want to watch shyt and learn black history, then look at something like this. Executive produced by Henry Hampton, a pioneer in this black filmaking shyt. If you want to learn about more than our recent history, and go back further in the past, then READ A fukkING BOOK

your seriously not listen to what I'm saying, these movies are the same tactics that the used to mental
abuse a people

you think these cacs gonna make a movie about being raped and slaved by moors
they control their images, they got moses white even though in the very same book they got it from its not the case
its about the intent the tactics, only these slave movies get critical acclaim no matter how could a film a black director makes

slaves comes from Slavs, the slaves were white at first, even when europeans first started slavery they were white
when they escaped they could blend in with the rest of them, that's why they went to get africans

I'm in the film business, I deal with racist cacs all day everyday I'm in their element, I'm surrounded by c00ns
but I real nikka from Detroit cannot be stop

Django is in the same bout as this film

you obviously don't understand what I'm saying

The aspects of these slaves, is always the brutality, when the true evil of slavery is nothing physical

if your a black and never read the autobiography of fredrick douglas, then you're not educated on your own history
and you're relying on hollywood to shape your psyche on what slavery was about

You have to understand how we were enslaved, it was mental brainwashing
and they continue to do it today with imagery as they've always done
No, you are incorrect.

Don't be confused with the idea that "mental" is somehow the only aspects that had lasting effects. The physical torture that slaves went though was great as well. If anything, it allowed for the mental torture that you highlight. If anything, this film and other "slave movies" don't do enough to show just how brutal the physical torture was. If you are Black, it is a shame that you shucked and jived and tap danced to what you were fed about the physical abuse "was nothing in comparison to....." blah blah blah. If anything, movies need to show just how brutal it was and this movie only tipped the iceberg.

While I will not question your education and/or comprehension as you have done....I will say that if you stand by what you wrote, it is proof that mental slavery served it's purpose unfortunately.

Also, if you care to listen, check out Derby's Doses...but then I guess that was not important.

I will say one thing. I am tired of seeing movies being made about slavery and being a black servant. We have had enough of those. How about some movies about subsaharan african rule, or in blacks in a position of authority with class? All this denigration shyt is getting old and tired.

Are you expecting Hollywood to do these for you? You expecting Hollywood to green light many of these? If not, then you gotta go to kickstarter and get involved grassroots style. If you are waiting for Jay Z to back these films instead of Barney's clothing store....you will be waiting.

No I'm not expecting the latter part of what I said being done, but I am tired of the constant slavery and servant movies.

This is the history of black people in America yall . Its ugly.

How many movies have been made about World War 2, The Civil War, The Cold War, The Holocaust, Vietnam etc?THOUSANDS. Those movies get made over and over and have been examined from every possible angle but for some reason people (including black people sadly) think that our history only needs to be looked at once. Like lets just make Roots and then move on to romantic comedies starrring Morris Chestnut...

I understand if ya'll don't like the quality or content of the movies, but if youre mad at the subject then you need to grow up. I think we need MORE of these movies. I want to see the movie about the last nikka in line at the March On Washington....

I'm tired of people saying they're tired of seeing blacks in a subservient role, or lumping movies like 12 Years a Slave in with The Butler or The Help.

What's wrong with the movies?

"There is nothing to forgive"

Powerful last words in the movie solidified it as my favorite movie of 2013.

I applaud the movies for their messages but it shouldn't be weird that people can get tired of seeing their race in a lower class view.
