I'm not a professional boxer, but at least trying to get dude out of there the rest of the round before calling it quits would seem preferable. Just seemed too abrupt.

I don't blame him. Seemed like he went out there to give it a shot but when he couldn't see the punch coming combined with the pain he has to be feeling getting hit there it made a smart business decision. It ain't like it was only 1 round left to get through or anything, still a lot of fight left. Why risk career threatening damage?

You're right. He did say the eye was already damaged from the previous rounds.
