It's worked though. The problem with MJF is his arc was always leading to winning the belt and ruling over AEW as a heel, but when he finally did it just didn't hit due to booking. He somehow felt less powerful/important when he was the champ than he did in 2021.

The stuff he's doing now is low stakes but it's working and entertaining at least
