Most of these high IQ and highly-talented people overall are autistic. You have to be somewhat off for your brain to process and view the world in the ways it does.

We tend to see these ultra-brilliant people in tech. Having ran across and working with a few - these cats ain't normal.

You can only hope they see it through and do big things that can help us all. Like a lot of bright Caltech, M.I.T, etc. students/graduates end up working for quant firms because they got a big job offer to sit around and do nothing due to some competitor not wanting their rivals hiring them - basically a waste of a high-potential talent.

When I was in high school, a 14 year old was in 12th grade and took all electives at that point, really nice, humble kid :ehh:

Got a full ride to some university at 15, last time I checked he works at Dollar General, lord knows what younger kids like these end up doing

What happens to all these young super geniuses and how come we never hear about them again after childhood?

It's like they can't get jobs or anything for years and then you don't seem them out here changing the world with inventions or anything

most of them probably do end up making bank, but just because you a child prodigy doesn't mean you just gonna be infinitely smarter than everyone else it levels out at some point

most of them probably end up doing jobs in a STEM field and 99.9% of those people don't end up famous like that.

There was a kid like that in my class years ago. Dude was a genius but after graduating college by the time he was 19-20, he ended up working at Staples but a lot of super smart dudes collapse from the pressure of expectations.

This basically.

Most of these people end up becoming rockstars at their company, not necessarily rockstars for the history books. Can't even blame them though because some tech or quant company offering them around $800k-$1000k/year while their family averages $80-$100k/year is going to be difficult to pass up vs working at a university doing research for free. Them working 1 year is literally their family working 10, so what happens when they work 10 to 20+ years with pay like that? Most people would do the same.

A lot of people don't live up to their expectations of saving the world because the money ain't right, so they do what most smart people do - go after the money. This is especially true if they don't come from wealth and they see an opportunity to help their families out and change their loved ones' situations. Like the saying goes, when somebody says "It's not about the money" then it usually means they have the luxury of coming from money. Again, you run into insanely smart people all the time in tech. People who you know were the 1% at their school: Caltech, M.I.T, Georgia Tech, etc. graduates who could have honestly made an impact in the world given time but they also have people to support that they care about and that's not free.

When Einstein went to work at the Institute for Advanced Studies in Princeton in 1932, he was asked to name a figure for the initial salary he wanted to earn: he thought for a while about what his requirements were and came up with a figure of US $3,000, which adjusted for inflation is about US $53,000 in 2013 dollars.

So it was a modest request - something like a starting salary for an assistant professor at a second-tier university.

One of the founders of the Institute wasn't happy with this number, because top scholars in the US were earning more than that - he increased Einstein's starting salary to about US $10,000 and added a $7500 per year pension.
Saving the world just doesn't pay the same financially as it should.

They don't always have the best means to show it.
Worked with some autistic children who really shine when teachers and administration knows how to handle them.
