The marketing surrounding the next Triller Fight Club Pay-Per-View carries the promise of an undisputed championship.
It will ring true for at least one bout on the card.
Multiple sources have informed BoxingScene.com of plans for a four-belt undisputed super middleweight championship in play between WBC/WBO titlist Franchon Crews-Dezurn and Elin Cederroos, who holds the WBA and IBF belts. The bout is intended to serve on the undercard of the June 5 PPV event headlined by lineal lightweight champion and WBA/IBF/WBO titlist Teofimo Lopez Jr. (16-0, 12KOs) and unbeaten IBF mandatory challenger George Kambosos Jr.
The show is due to air live from a yet-to-be-announced venue in Miami, though—as previously reported by BoxingScene.com—event handlers have a hold on loanDepot Park, home to Major League Baseball’s Florida Marlins.
Crews-Dezurn (7-1, 2KOs; 1ND) saw her unified WBC/WBO title reign restored last spring following a controversial fight with Mexico’s Alejandra Jimenez. The Jan. 2020 clash in San Antonio initially saw Jimenez claim a disputed split decision win, only for the verdict to be overturned by the Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation (TDLR) after the unbeaten 33-year-old from Cancun tested positive for the banned substance stanozolol.
The chain of events prompted the WBO to restore Crews-Dezurn’s title reign last March, while the WBC was slower to the draw before finally coming correct last June. Crews-Dezurn has since returned to the ring this past January, scoring an eight-round points win over Ashleigh Curry who badly missed weight for their non-title fight.
The placement of Crews-Dezurn on the show makes sense as she and Kambosos (19-0-1, 10KOs) are both managed by Peter Kahn, who is also the chief boxing officer for Triller Fight Club. The 33-year-old Baltimore-based champ is promoted by Golden Boy Promotions, whose company founder Oscar De La Hoya will headline Triller’s July 3 PPV event in an exhibition match versus an opponent to be determined.
Cederroos (8-0, 4KOs) has not fought since unifying the WBA and IBF titles in a thrilling 10-round unanimous decision win over Alicia Napoleon last January in Atlantic City. The fight was scored 95-94 on all three cards, with a 2nd round knockdown providing the margin of victory for Sweden’s Cederroos who made her U.S. debut.
The upcoming showdown with Crews-Dezurn will mark her second straight stateside appearance and third overall title fight for Cederroos, who claimed the IBF belt following a 10-round majority decision win over Femke Hermans in March 2019.
The winner will become the fourth true undisputed champion in the sport, joining Katie Taylor (lightweight), Jessica McCaskill (welterweight) and Claressa Shields (junior middleweight) on such a lofty stage. Shields also previously served as undisputed middleweight champion and remains the division’s lineal champ.
