10.6 wont even get you on podium in high school track.. atleast in florida..
I think one way to look at it is that over 100 years, we haven't gotten even 1 second faster, which sounds somewhat disappointing -- or maybe somewhat impressive from the perspective of someone 100 years ago.
Another way to look at it is, how fast or slow is 1 second, really? In a race, be it cars or people, tenths of a second looks like a lot of distance...even if conceptually a few tenths is the blink of an eye.
Finishing 0.81 seconds behind a sprinter today could be like 10 meters behind. That's massive when I think of it in those terms.
