Geno was never a long term option here. He was drafted by another GM and HC. He's cheap so he'll be around this year but he'll be gone next year.

So we're rolling with the draft's worst QB Cacenberg and 4th round college veteran Bryce Petty

If Hackenberg isn't punch drunk, Gailey is going to turn him into a real QB.

Not a fan but he was good his freshman year then Franklin got there who's an awful coach and he fell apart

We'll see. Even if Gailey fixes Hackenberg's footwork, he still has accuracy problems, poor pocket presence and a seeming inability to play under pressure. It will take at least 2 years to fix all these issues if they can be fixed at all.

Fitz is not coming back I think could be wrong. Think Hack is a rookie and Petty is a project. They won't release Geno and leave them two. We won't have a quarterback if Fitz gets hurt.

2016: Open competition with Geno and Petty, rookie is the 3rd QB(inactive), tell Fitz
2017: Open competition with Petty and Cacenburg, sign a veteran FA type(Matt Hasslebeck-ish) as a backup/3rd QB

The team isn't releasing Geno, who might come good, to bring back Fitz, a career backup. It'll be Geno, Hack and Petty. That's actually a good competition that Geno will win. I actually like this move as it will push Geno and Petty. They will feel the pressure that comes against competing a highly touted recruit like Hackenberg. Geno will eat, sleep and breathe football..or else Hackenberg will take his job.
