I think Vance was far more polished, far better prepared, and the rules of the debate benefitted him since he was lying his ass off while constantly sanitizing Trump's insanity. But Walz managed to win multiple topics by forcing Vance to take the mask of normalcy off. Vance could have made turning abortion into a states right issue seem normal until Walz put a human face on it: women are dying in red states where abortion is banned, and fundamental rights should not be decided by where you live. And then he did it again on guns, and then on housing, and then finally on democracy where he ripped the mask completely off. Vance couldn't even admit his boss lost the election.

In short I don't think this moves the needle either way but I think the most effective messaging of the night was Walz on abortion, and Vance on asking why hasn't Kamala done anything she's calling for.
